Year 3 Swimming Lessons at West Craven Leisure Centre

Hello

In the Summer Term, Year 3 will start swimming lessons! We are very excited about this and I’m sure the children will be too.
Swimming lessons are an important part of your child’s continuous learning throughout their school life. It is compulsory that your child participates in the swimming lessons in order to improve their confidence in the water and help give your child essential water safety survival skills. Swimming is also a statutory requirement of the National Curriculum, so your child will be expected to swim each week, unless it is for a valid reason.

Swimming lessons will begin on Tuesday 16 April 2024, in school time from 1:15pm-2:15pm and will last for a 12 week period, with the last session on Tuesday 9 July 2024.

We will be walking to and from the leisure centre, so please ensure your child has a coat in school – preferably with a hood to keep them warm after they have got out of the pool.

During this swimming lesson block, your child will learn a range of different swimming techniques and lifesaving skills, as well as gaining confidence in the water to give them the maximum opportunity to achieve the National Curriculum swimming standards by the time they have finished Year 6.
