Year 2 have begun looking at the exploration of space. They had a special visitor today. Mr. Mitchell came to talk about his work with NASA on a project to send a telescope into space to take high resolution photographs of the sun. He set Mr. Browne the challenge of working out how long it would take to drive to the sun, so here goes …
At 70mph, the distance of 93,000,000 miles to the sun would take 151 years, 242 days, 3 hours and 25 minutes. Mr. Browne’s car would use 1,890,909 gallons (7,687,024 litres) of diesel and if he bought the fuel at the Co-op garage where he lives, would cost him £2,113,636.25.
