We had an unexpected guest in school today. A bat made its home on the board outside Year 4’s classroom and watched us having dinner in the hall at lunch time. He (or she?) was placed in a box and collected by a bat expert in the afternoon to be released locally tonight.

Well done to our Year 3/4 Tennis team. This team of children came Runners Up this afternoon in the Pendle Schools Tennis competition at Pendle Vale College. The team won all 3 of their games against other Pendle schools before narrowly getting beat off Earby in the final. Well done to all of you! 🎾🥈

A team of children from Year 5/6 had a great time this morning taking part in a Duathlon Challenge at the Steven Burke Cycling Hub. All the children had to run 200 metres, cycle 600 metres and then drop their bike and run an extra 200 metres. The children all completed this challenge. Well done…

Today we were lucky enough to receive a visit from SMJ Falconry as part of our habitats topic. Rhiannon showed the children owls, a kestrel and a peregrine falcon. The children asked some excellent questions and we learnt a lot about these fascinating birds of prey.

The ladies from Barnoldswick in Bloom came in this afternoon to help us with our planter which will eventually be moved next to the crossing by the Co-op. Our project this year is to create a vertical garden. The sun shone for us this afternoon while everyone worked really well together.

Year 3 have been working on the story ‘The Tunnel’ by Anthony Browne. We then wrote our own adventure stories based on it. They were so good we had to share them! Thank you Year 2 for visiting us and listening so well to our stories.
As part of our topic on ‘How does your garden grow?’ The children in Year 3 had to design and make a mini greenhouse in D.T. We looked at the properties of greenhouses, evaluated existing greenhouses, looked at stability and structure then designed and made our own. It was great fun!
Year 1 loved Sports Day last week. The children enjoyed all of the races and were very excited to see our special visitor from BFC.
Year 2 were busy today in the allotment. We planted out our broadbean and sweetcorn seedlings and looked for minibeasts in the various micro-habitats that we found at the allotment.

Year 3 had a fantastic day at Harlow Carr. The sun shone all day as we explored the beautiful gardens. We found out all about pollinators and the names of the different parts of a flower. We also had fun on the adventure playground!

Year 1 have been camping outdoors today for their English lesson. We thought about what you would need to take with you and what you could do while you are camping. The children have written lists and sentences which they will use when completing their information booklets and posters. Well done Year 1!
Year 5 love learning practically! In our science lesson we dissected a plant and labelled the different parts using the correct scientific vocabulary. We were each named part of a plant and had to physically put ourselves together to make the full plant.
Year 2 went bug hunting today. As part of our work on habitats, we were investigating which minibeasts make their home in our playground. We found woodlice, spiders, ladybirds, fruit flies, flying ants, worms and a millipede. All of them are now safely back in their hiding places.

Year 2 had a busy day sowing seeds today. First we were planting for Barnoldswick in Bloom, and then beans, peas and sweetcorn for our allotment. We are hoping for another good summer so we will have a good crop for our farmer’s market later on in the year.
Don’t forget, tomorrow is non uniform day. We will also be doing the Bunny Hop to raise funds for Pendleside Hospice. Watch this space ?
