Year 1 loved Sports Day last week. The children enjoyed all of the races and were very excited to see our special visitor from BFC.
Year 2 were busy today in the allotment. We planted out our broadbean and sweetcorn seedlings and looked for minibeasts in the various micro-habitats that we found at the allotment.
Well done to our Year 5/6 Tag Rugby team from today’s Tag Rugby Mega Festival at Holt House. The team won 3, drew 2 and lost 1. They were a fantastic team – well done guys! 🏉

Year 3 had a fantastic day at Harlow Carr. The sun shone all day as we explored the beautiful gardens. We found out all about pollinators and the names of the different parts of a flower. We also had fun on the adventure playground!

Year 1 have been to visit Year 2 today. We wanted to find out the children’s favourite fruit ready to create our own block diagrams tomorrow. The children recorded the information using tally charts. Thank you for letting us visit Year 2 🙂
Year 1 have been camping outdoors today for their English lesson. We thought about what you would need to take with you and what you could do while you are camping. The children have written lists and sentences which they will use when completing their information booklets and posters. Well done Year 1!
Year 5 love learning practically! In our science lesson we dissected a plant and labelled the different parts using the correct scientific vocabulary. We were each named part of a plant and had to physically put ourselves together to make the full plant.
Year 2 went bug hunting today. As part of our work on habitats, we were investigating which minibeasts make their home in our playground. We found woodlice, spiders, ladybirds, fruit flies, flying ants, worms and a millipede. All of them are now safely back in their hiding places.

A huge well done to our team of children from Key Stage 1 who WON the Tri-Golf competition at Salterforth Primary School this afternoon. Well done to our Year 5/6 Cross Country team from this afternoon’s competition at Holt House. The children all completed the 1.3 mile run around the fields of Holt House in as quick a time as possible. The children showed lots of grit and determination to ensure they completed their run. ?♂️

Cricket information for parents of all children from Reception, Year 1 and 2. Barnoldswick CC will be doing the All Stars Cricket programme and this will begin in May.
Year 2 had a busy day sowing seeds today. First we were planting for Barnoldswick in Bloom, and then beans, peas and sweetcorn for our allotment. We are hoping for another good summer so we will have a good crop for our farmer’s market later on in the year.
Don’t forget, tomorrow is non uniform day. We will also be doing the Bunny Hop to raise funds for Pendleside Hospice. Watch this space ?

This week the children in Year 2 have been finding out about salad. We started by investigating (and tasting) salad leaves. We weren’t too impressed by rocket, but came up with some good adjectives to describe its strong, peppery taste.

Year 3 were very surprised this afternoon. First they were told to scrunch their paper up, then to rip it and finally to do their art work on the floor and under the tables! We tried to make the classroom as ‘cave like’ as we could. I think they enjoyed learning all about Cave drawings.

Last week, as part of their explorers topic, Year 2 were busy testing materials to make the soles of space boots. Green, shiny card was a popular choice, however, it didn’t last long on planet Gisburn Road. The children are now experts at explaining whether a test is fair or not.
